Administrative Fellowship Program

The University of Missouri Health Care Administrative Fellowship is an in-depth, two-year program dedicated to the professional development and personal growth of future health care leaders. Through valuable rotations and projects, fellows can learn from executive leaders and make a significant impact within the academic health system

First Year
Administrative fellows gain exposure through core rotations at MU Health Care and Mizzou School of Medicine to broaden their knowledge while being able to engage with executive leaders and develop areas of interest and experience within health care. Fellows will simultaneously complete system level projects with executive guidance.

Second Year
Administrative fellows are matched based on their interests and the priorities of the organization to complete structured rotations and real-world projects for both system and departmental/operational levels. Additionally, administrative fellows will gain leadership experience through an interim management role.

During the first year, fellows complete core rotations in:

  • Clinical operations, including inpatient and ambulatory services
  • Behavioral health
  • School of Medicine administration
  • Human resources
  • Finance, quality and safety, project management and business development
During the second year, fellows complete elective rotations based on their individual interests and career goals. In addition to these rotations, fellows complete an interim assignment such as serving in a practice manager role, which provides hands-on leadership experience and the opportunity to apply their skills in a real-world operational setting.

Executive Exposure and Networking
Throughout the fellowship, fellows learn directly from executives, have the opportunity to attend executive meetings and build relationships across the organization and beyond through:

  • Alumni networking with past fellows across industries through curated events, panels and informal meetups.
  • Dinners with leadership in small group settings with program leaders, executives and chiefs to gain insight and mentorship
  • One-on-one mentorship with a dedicated mentor who provides personalized guidance, career advice and ongoing support throughout the program

The MU Health Care Administrative Fellowship is a two-year program designed for top-performing graduates who have completed an accredited master’s degree in health care administration, public health, public administration, health informatics or business administration prior to the start of the fellowship. Applicants with an MBA or MPA must have either a minimum of nine health care-specific credit hours or at least six months of health care work experience.
